May 10, 2012 - Running engine displays are usually made from parts that won't pass inspection for flight or surplus low-demand engines. So it's a mechanical hobby for some. This engine was dug out of the ground from a crash and restored over a number of years. (I believe that it was buried in clay that helped to preserve it.)
May 9, 2012 - It's been done! There was a street-legal car known as "the Monster", if I remember correctly, built in the1960s or 1970s. Not officially approved by Rolls-Royce, of course, despite the classic radiator grille.
May 6, 2012 - Most of these running displays are made from parts that can't be certified for flight anymore.I believe that the Merlin above was actually dug out of the ground from a crash site and rebuilt to running condition over many years.
May 5, 2012 - What a waste of a perfectly good engine, to put it on a trailer and just run it. This engine deserves to be attached to an aircraft and allowed to do what it's main purpose was..... FLY.
