May 26, 2012 - As soon as I saw that the camshafts were geared 1:1 to the crankshaft, I realized it was going to run on compressed air. This means that no cooling is required and there is less chance of ruining a lovely piece of engineering art.
May 25, 2012 - Yes, yes I could design & build such a thing........and it would require more than the 1200+ hours he took to build it. I cringe at the thought of how small the valves are!
I would bet they resemble the common pin, in size & shape. If I had the time & tools I could, do I want to? No....what's the point? Most micro sized engines are Two-strokes being there are no valves & valve-springs....the tiniest parts, the valves, springs, keepers, I would guess were the hardest thing to do.
May 25, 2012 - If you didn't notice, it was obvious the crank was balanced as there were notches in the crankshaft its self, the type you do when you balance a crankshaft.....
May 25, 2012 - Yes it is compressed air as no water jacket or radiator are present and diesel has been negated by the fact it is and has no cooling means but this little engine is a work of art only a clock maker such as I could do. Try tapping that little block for 8-80 screws and then for the metric torx screws he uses to fasten the heads. I will mention there are no spark plugs. Clocks may run the world but people make the clocks.
May 24, 2012 - If it was to be used under load I would understand the issue with an unsupported unbalanced crank, but with it just running on the bench I imagine it will last a very long time with no load. And what is the problem with a push rod setup? That fact that he did this makes it awesome.

Apparently the builder's name is Yesus Wilder and he only used three materials to build the engine. Stainless steel, aluminum, and bronze.
All credits to him. More

May 26, 2012 - I would love to see a Swiss watch maker that's also a car enthusiast create one that actually runs on gas.
