It's already 17 years since the first small-bore Ducati 4-valve superbike, the 748, broke cover -- the same year as the iconic 916, in 1994. The 748 played a background second fiddle to the beloved 916 series until the 749 emerged in 2003. A close relation to the aesthetically challenged 999, the 749 continued to be a relatively low-cost entre into Ducati's superbike family and competed against the Japanese 600s in supersport competition...

May 2, 2012 - I own a Yamaha r6 and a Ducati. You will never have the pride of ownership a Ducati gives you. The r6 is a great ride for sure. The Ducati is a different ride. everyone loves ducatis for what they are. I have never been to a bike night on the duc where everyone else didn't wanna hear it or see it up close. It's a hand made beauty. Doesn't make it perform better- just a different quality. I have a 999s. People fall all over themselves just over my triple trees. I respect everyone's ride.

Apr 27, 2012 - my first bike was a 1995 CBR900. not the best idea, but worked out fine. learned all the things not to do early on in the msf course. had it for 2 years, always riding. just sold her yesterday afternoon :-( that's why i came looking for this 848. think i'll stop by the ducati dealership & see how they ride

Apr 21, 2012 - I have never ridden a motorcycle before, but if I had the money, I would start on this just because I reallylyyyy likeee ittttt. ^.^

Apr 12, 2012 - I love how a ducati looks, but there's a few aspects of design that are a deal breaker for me. For one, on this model, they replaced the dry clutch with a wet. That was a signature of Ducati, and then they go and change it. On top of that the biggest thing I have a problem with is the sidestand placement. Mounting it on the engine seems like a huge design flaw.

Apr 10, 2012 - i currently have this ducati and i love it to bits the power is amazing good onya mate!!!
01parrott Says:
Apr 8, 2012 - I agree completely. According the HURT report on US motorcycle fatalities, riders with dirt bike experience are very under represented in all fatal accident categories. In other words, if you know how to ride dirt, you are a lot less likely to die on the street. If I'd had any dirt bike experience, I might have started out with something bigger than my ZX-6R too! : )

Apr 8, 2012 - I agree that its smart to start on a smaller, less powerful bike. but a friend on mine went from riding 125cc and 250cc dirt bikes to learning on a brand new R1. just dont be a dumbass on the throttle for a month, keep it slow and youd be fine.
01parrott Says:
Mar 29, 2012 - This is definitely not a starter bike. Although the general consensus is that a 250 is best to learn on, I learned just fine on a Ninja ZX-6R. Your first ride should be something that is: 1) forgiving 2) cheap to fix 3) cheap to insure. The Ducati is a beautiful bike, but it is way too big for a new rider, VERY expensive to fix when you drop it, and VERY expensive to insure. Just my $.02

Mar 23, 2012 - How much riding exprience would you atleast need to ride something like this?

Mar 14, 2012 - I love ducati's sooo much, but the only thing that has stopped me from going into a dealer and riding home with one of these is the sound, and i know that the engine is not built like its japanese counter parts, and is probably more powerfull and efficient then them, but theres something about about the 4 cylinder jap bikes that gets me going, when u get on them at about 11 grand, everything else on these itlalian hand built bikes is amazing, i just do not like the sound they make

Mar 9, 2012 - you know id want one... but im scared the upkeep and maintinance will cost me an arm and leg

Mar 3, 2012 - ... back in the day i went from my first bike at 15 being a new 1978 honda 400 twin to a few years without a bike to a nuw suzuki GSXR 1100 HyperSport and i am still here and healthy to tell you about it ... i think the two most important points to share with you are, always remember that you have what can quickly become a metal death trap between your legs ~ not a toy & always use the tool that you have in your helmet ~ happy riding :)
Seedcadets Says:
Feb 22, 2012 - theres a NA market for this bike.So people from the US should have a proper overview. Its like Harley Davidson going to Italy and having only a English speaking person who makes harleys try to give a overview of their bikes being sold there,a) ive looked on youtube and could not find anyone from ducati that can give a overview of the bike in english b)y read a review?stop being ignorant, not everyone speaks italian, other kind of ppl buy this bike.
circababe23 Says:
Feb 19, 2012 - still in my dreams. ima chick tho. i should stop spendin money on makeup and cars i hate 6months lata. lol bikes is my new thing.im done with cars i have to soup.ima get a bike like that. 1 day when im sober lol
KudzaiS Says:
Feb 12, 2012 - Why should they get someone who speaks proper English when the makers of the bike are Italian? If you really wanted an overview in English i'm sure you can a) keep looking on Youtube, or b) read a review online. The second option would probably be better anyway since it would be more detailed. Stop being lazy, it's not that hard to look up stuff.
Seedcadets Says:
Feb 9, 2012 - Why cant they ever get any riders to over view the bike who speak proper English lol?????

Dec 28, 2011 - No, if you know how to ride. i say test bike few bikes like this and see which one you feel a connection with. Ducati are nice bikes but i would look at a lot of other things such as reliability. Stay safe bud.

Dec 26, 2011 - i have a 883 harley sportster it was my begining bike now in march im trading it in for this,do you guys think switching from a crusier to this will be too much for my first sportbike? ..power wise
LueXiong10 Says:
Dec 21, 2011 - @CveleNis81 Yeah @Brian192813, Not a starter bike.... if you want a good starter bike, look to a Kawasaki Ninja 250R or if you already have a strong riding background then go for a Honda CBR600RR.
