Apr 25, 2009 - I see your hp ratings for a built 450 and can only think how long will that engine stay together? You can take a kx500 and with fairly simple modifications get around 70 to 75 hp, and the engine is still reliable. If the old 89 model kx500 engines actually where upgraded through the years like the 250 class dirtbikes then the 500 would make some crazy power.

NRG 500! 3 cilinder 2 stroke 499ccm 201bhp BONE STOCK!.... their no bike today that makes 201bhp at the wheel from the factory.... even the 1300 busa's and zx14's dont have the power that thing had.
my point is, i cannot be biast i have 2 four strokes and 1 two stroke, you however need to look into this alot more, no offence.

a 450 4 stroke can make more power than a 500 2 stroke. with lots of mods and tuning. thats my point. heres an example. a 120 thousand dollar honda civic with shaved head, smith tuning pipes computer etc etc can beat a lightly modded dodge viper. Wich ones more practical the raced out tricked out civic? or

Apr 3, 2009 - weird cr 500's came stock at 68bhp,iv owned the kx 500, cr 500 and yz 490 and their all brutal...... a 2 stroke engine has half the parts and is alot lighter, plus it needs less oil witch again makes it lighter, the torqe curve is far superior to that of a 4 stroke, and with tuning on the 2 stroke aswell YES!, it is imposible.

Apr 2, 2009 - actually thats very wrong, a 450 ( for example) kx 450f (4 stroke) with 13:5:1 compression and some headwork makes 62 hp at 10 250 rpms 45 fpt (tourque) at our dyno. a 2002 kx 500, with wiseco compression kit, (6:11:1) makes 61 hp at 7125 rpm's. and 41 foot/lbs of tourque. so not its not mechanically impossible to make a 4 stroke motor make the same or more hp than a 2 stroke.
