May 23, 2012 - I can see the argument how people don't like sampling in hip hop because they feel like it's ruining the original song. This is one of my favorite R&B songs of all time but I still like the sample by Nine "Any Emcee" by changing around the sound a little but keeping still true to the original sample. I wouldn't say rap ruined anything because without rap I wouldn't have looked up the sample to find the original song but I come from a different generation than the usual people who listen to this.

May 21, 2012 - Yes, but he died in 1984, long after the most of the Spinners hit songs were behind them. Check out Phillpe Wynne's vocal solo on George Clinton's Knee Deep. I think Phillipe starts singing around the 9 minute mark of the Funk Classic.
