A lot of popular songs have a lower technical skill level than even this. It's not necessarily a reflection on the musicality of a song. My interpretation of the lyrics is that the song is about propaganda. Anthrax is related to war (and the government), ham radio is a communication device (no shit...) and liquor numbs your mind (like propaganda).

May 20, 2012 - neil fallon has a degree in literature from maryland, his lyrics are always whimsical and cryptic. in this case he has said that while driving in his hometown he saw ham radio antennae on houses, and liquor stores on the same street as an airforce base that makes weapons grade anthrax, thus inspired the lyric. clutch has been rocking for over 20 years check out their entire discography and then respect this band.
